Melatonin is a hormone produced by the pineal gland of mammals and reaches peak levels at night. Studies show that it may be associated with the regulation of the sleep/wake cycles. Melatonin is a potent antioxidant that defends against free radicals and helps to support glutathione activity in the neural tissue. When dissolved in the mouth, melatonin may go directly to the brain and bypass the liver causing it to work quickly and effectively.
