Indole-3-carbinol (I3C) inhibits hormonal pathways involved in the development of cancers such as breast, cervical, colon, ovarian, and prostate cancers, and laryngeal papillomas. I3C is used as a preventative - it cannot inhibit tumors once they have started. When a precancerous condition is detected, an I3C supplement may prevent progression to cancer or even bring about a remission. A complete remission of Cervical Dysplasia is obtained in about 50% of cases when I3C is taken orally at 200-400 mg/day for 12 weeks.
